Yugorsk (Finn. Jukolla) is a Uralican city in Yugra county, sitting on a stretch of UH-6 that contains several medium-sized settlements, of which it is the largest. (Others include Kuiksk, Chetyrgoroda, and Tayozhnyy.)

Before the Cataclysm, the main sector was oil and gas production, but the refineries and pipelines were largely destroyed during that period of time. Since the beginning of the Robertian era, food production, masonry, production of consumer goods, clothing production, and a small-scale forestry project have kept the city afloat, although it would sink to half its pre-Cataclysm population until several useful non-metallic minerals were discovered in the area in late 2008. Chemical manipulation has made Yugorsk somewhat important as well, as it has become a leading producer of synthetic gypsum - an important ingredient for drywall.

Culture[]

The area is traditional territory of the Khants and Mansi, and there are a few of both living in the city, although Russians and Hungarians outnumber them quite considerably. Still, the minorities run the very successful local museum, which is popular for both tourists and residents. It is a combination of an ethnography of the Khanty and Mansi peoples, and a history of the settlement, going back to its earlier days as "Komsomol'sky" (it was renamed in 1992).

Yugorsk is also very well-known for being in the range of several nature sanctuaries. Road access to the Verkhnekondinsky National Nature Reserve, Kondinsky Lakes National Nature Reserve, and Malaya Sos'va National Park starts in the city, and a 8000-acre range for Siberian tigers in semi-captivity is just north of nearby Kuiksk. Numerous nature tours run out of Yugorsk.
