Federal Assembly following the election. | ||||
The 2006 United Isles Federal Election elected 138 members to the Federal Assembly. Incumbent Chancellor Anna Grace was defeated in her attempt to secure a third consecutive term. Opposition leader Matthew Lowe entered into a coalition government with the NPP. Although the Social Democratic Union lost support to Movement (a new centre-left party), the Liberal Alliance maintained a consistent level of support. Despite its large increase in support, Movement failed to pass the 4% threshold to enter the Federal Assembly by 0.1%. In the two years prior to the election, Movement was consistently polling around 9%. However, following the poor performance of its party leader, Xander Price, in the two election debates, its poll ratings quickly declined.
