The Transvaal Voetbalsvereniging (Transvaal Football Union) domestic soccer leagues were established on November 13, 2007 and commenced play the following month.

The Transvaal National League consisted of five Anglo-Afrikaner clubs (Bloemfontien, East London, Johannesburg, Kimberley, and Pretoria) based in the Republic proper and Salisbury in the Rhodesian Protectorate.

The Transvaal African League consisted of five African clubs (Bulawayo, Gaborone, Maputo, Masero, Mbabane) based in the African Protectorates governed by Transvaal and one club based in the black-populated South Western Townships near Johannesburg.

Blantyre, Kaapstad (Cape Town), Lusaka, Port Elizabeth, Walvis Bay, and Windhoek joined the league as new clubs for the February 2008 season while Salisbury transferred leagues and was renamed Harare.

The domestic leagues suspended operations after just two seasons. There was an attempt to resurrect the league in June 2008 but this failed to get off the ground before a single match was played.

After the demise of the domestic leagues, the main responsibility of the Transvaal Voetbalsvereniging shifted towards that of becoming a national govering board for soccer in Transvaal and overseeing management of Transvaal’s X11 franchises as well as organising the annual Transvaal World Cup tournaments. At it's height, there were three clubs affiliated with the Transvaal Voetbalsvereniging: Transvaal Springboks in the Liga Mundo, Windhoek Welwitschia in the Vedder League, and Kaapstad Hornets in the Nordreich Liga.

On February 3, 2013, the Transvaal Voetbalsvereniging was officially disbanded due to redundancy as a "national" governing association. It was the last remaining and functioning governmental legacy from the Republic of Transvaal which had continued to operate for almost exactly two years after the demise of the Transvaal nation in CNRP.
