Pervouralsk (Finn. Ykkösuralla) is a Uralican city, located in the southeast of the country, and within Southeast Uralica county, of which it is the county seat (as Yekaterinburg is within its own unitary authority). The name of the city literally means "first of the Urals," and is well-known for a monument that marks the geographical boundary between Europe and Asia. It is very close to Revda (13 km from city centre to city centre), and in fact there were at one point talks of merging the two cities, although this was scrapped before it could reach the referendum stage.

Economically, Pervouralsk has a fairly diverse economy. It is Uralica's leading producer, city-wise, of both milk and dairy products, and pipes, both metallic and plastic. It also has very large silica production and refractory-manufacturing industries, as it is located close to Uralica's richest silicate deposits. Commercially, Pervouralsk is expanding rapidly in the retail sector, and wholesaling of refractory bricks is a large source of income.

Culture[]

Pervouralsk was a benefactor of Great War III in the sense that Russians fleeing from Perm' would set up shop here, although many of them would go the extra 55 kilometres to Yekaterinburg. Later, as Uralica expanded to include the area, a great many Finns settled in both Pervouralsk and Revda. Nowadays, these two ethnic groups make up roughly 90% of the population. Most of the remainder is Hungarian or Komi-Permyak.

There isn't much to Pervouralsk that would appeal to tourists, perhaps with the exceptions of the Europe-Asia Boundary Monument, and the Karaulnaya Quartzite Cave Tours.
