Liga Mundo Season 36 ran from February 27, 2020 to June 28, 2020.
League membership dropped from 46 teams to 45 with the loss of Swamplandia Sinners. Early into the previous season, MudBug was fired as the manager of Swamplandia Sinners on October 28, 2019 after 32 seasons at the helm, the second most-senior manager in the league. The club remained without a manager for the rest of the season and was disbanded by league authorities on February 16, 2020, a few days after the conclusion of the 35th season.
During the pre-season period Gopherbashi was fired as manager of Gopher City Pippas FC on February 23, 2020 and the club would play out its final season without a manager.
To better balance out the playing schedule, the first leg of Copa Cato XXIX was delayed by one week to kick off on the second Sunday of the season instead of its typical start on the first Sunday of the new season.
Sporting Los Angeles and TNFR Twilight Titans FC both folded soon after the conclusion of the season on June 29, 2020. This left just nine - or under half - the original pre-merger Liga Mundo teams remaining since Season 30.

Costa Libertad Trophy (Team of the Month)[]
The Costa Libertad Trophy for the Liga Mundo Team of the Month was inaugurated on June 1, 2012 as a team achievement award for all Liga Mundo teams. The trophy is named in honour of the former Cybernation Costa Libertad - which was the home of Liga Mundo's founder PremierApex.

Mouss Kaká
Although the Liga Mundo Hall of Fame has been closed to inductions since the end of Season 30, Liga Mundo commissioner Bartnel Botha announced today in a special league ruling, that retiring Dodo International fullback Mouss Kaká would be inducted as honourary member into the hall of fame, with all the rights and honours that come with that status. Mouss Kaká is just the second player ever to have been inducted into the hall of fame due to a commissioner's special ruling.
The 37-year-old Kaká - no relation to the legendary midfielder Arlindo Kaká who played for Atlético Luz Del Mar and Transvaal Springboks - has appeared in an incredible 403 career games, with 112 of those matches played during his 6 seasons spent in Liga Mundo after the merger with the African Premier League.
"With his exceptional stamina, anyone who had witnessed him playing back in the days of the APL and its predecessor leagues could have seen this man was marked for outstanding greatness. While his tenure here in Liga Mundo has been shorter, any player in this day and age amassing over 400 matches is exceptional. Thus it is only fitting that such a player be included amongst the ranks of such legendary Liga Mundo fullback greats as Lois Luis (Atlético Luz Del Mar / Marseille FC), Derek Boyd (Nordheim Badgers FC), Joep Boekweg (Transvaal Springboks), Red Moreno (VolNation Volunteers) and many others."

Legendary DI captain Mouss Kaká leaves with the best of farewells as he finally lifted the most coveted prize of the Liga Mundo, having finally won all honours available in club football. Having been with the club all his life, he grew up idolising DI's values and had tears in his eyes as the club clinched the title on the last day.
"It is the best day of my life! Having come this long way since the academy, I have yet to realise what happened! I can't believe it!," said an emotional Mouss Kaká, surrounded by his team and fans alike.
With just over 400 appearances, he has become a living legend. Fans have started a petition to have a statue built outside the stadium in his honour and many newborn babies have been named after him so much was the fervour of DI's title win.
