The Republic of Laurentia is a nation on the east coast of North America.
Geography[]
Laurentia is primarily dominated by mountains. It consists of most of portions of the former Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario.
History[]
Caitlin, Monarch of Disparu
Disparu, a successor state to Canada dissolved due to a referendum movement proposed by Lamont de Solidor. Disparu territory was administered by Pravus Inguro. Pravus Inguro later collapsed in 2045, leading to the creation of New Quebec and the North American Commonwealth.
King Albert, first King of Ottania
New Quebec collapsed in 2080 after the Grand Mexican War. In 2086, the Darach family used their wealth to secure the city of Ottawa. The new city grew strong and Albert Darach declared himself king of Ottania. In 2113, Ottania contested for the city of Montreal with Vermont and Quebec. Ottania was victorious in this matter primarily due to assistance received by J Andres. King Justin secured this assistance by agreeing to marry his daughter, Princess Maisie to the new King of J Andres Phillippe II. The heir apparent, Prince Louis would also marry a J Andres noble, Lady Isidora of Katherine.
Mathieu, Duke of Montreal
For nearly 100 years, the Darach family would cling to power and rule the growing Ottanian territory; however, the monarchy's grip on power was waning in the 2160s and 2170s, leading to revolution. In 2178, King Mathieu made an agreement for the Augustine Empire to annex the territory and he to remain its leader as a Duke within the Empire. This arrangement was short lived, as when Emperor Marshall Augustus died in 2181, part of a ceasefire deal between J Andres and the Empire was that the Ottanian territory be turned back over to its people. The Augustine Empire continued to administer the territory until December 31, 2183. At midnight in 2184, the territory became self-governing as Laurentia.
Government and Politics[]
The Republic of Laurentia is a unitary parlimentary republic, similar to Quebec Republic. A Chancellor is elected from the House of Commons to lead the government.
Foreign Relations[]
Laurentia has good relations with J Andres. Laurentia also has a strong affinity with the other francophone nations of North America, primarily Acadia.
