Kudymkar (Russ. Кудымкар, Finn. Kudumikari) is a city in south central Uralica. It is effectively the centre and most important town of the Kudymkar Circle, a series of settlements arranged in a concentric pattern around Kudymkar that centre around the Uralican internal wheat trade - this was made a separate county in 2009, having originally been a part of Permski Rayon. It sits on Highway UH-2.

This said, since the exporting of wheat halted, other industries moved in to take its place. It still produces much in the way of farming equipment, both stationary and mobile, and other heavy machinery is produced as well. Also, there are sectors in food production, automotive repair, and CD-printing. There is also a large retail sector, necessitated by the fact that Kudymkar serves not only the Kudymkar Circle but also the entire former Komi-Permyak Okrug within Permski Rayon as well.

Culture[]

The name Kudymkar itself is Komi in origin, but Kudymkar is surprisingly multicultural, given its proximity to several tribal capitals. There are significant amounts of Komi (mostly Permyak-speakers), Mari, Mordvins, Russians, Finns, Estonians, Hungarians, and Ob Ugrics in the town and the surrounding circle. This multiculturality is reflected in the varying styles of homes in Kudymkar.

Kudymkar has been branded the "folk music capital of Uralica" because of its numerous open-air folk music festivals. It is also known to produce some country music stars, most of whom sing in English. An English nickname for the city in the area is "Kudymtwang."
