Krasnokamsk (Finn. Punokamala) is a town near the south-eastern border of Uralica, about 45 km west of the major city of Perm' (centre-to-centre). It is important strategically as well as for trade given its proximity to that major city, and it also sits on the Kama river, hence its name. It is the former county seat of Permski Rayon, having this status until 1 April 2010, when Kungur officially became the new seat.
Since Krasnokamsk was at one time a bedroom community to Perm', it is mostly residential, although there are many nearby quarries and mines, so there is also an industrial presence in Krasnokamsk, nowadays primarily devoted to metallurgy.
Krasnokamsk was very heavily damaged during Great War III (albeit not as much as Perm') and required a great deal of time and effort to rebuild the city.
Culture[]
The population is predominantly Permyak-speaking Komi, with many Russians and some Udmurts as well. There aren't many tall buildings in Krasnokamsk, however there is a cluster of high-rise flats right near the city hall, which are collectively the tallest buildings in the city.
Since many of the traditional buildings were destroyed (a fact decried by several global cultural preservation organisations), the vast majority of the buildings in the city have a more modern structure, although the Orthodox Church of Saint Elizabeth is a stunningly accurate representation of older Russian architecture, having been built in mid-2008.
