The Province of Bosnia and Herzegovina (German: Provinz von Bosnien und Herzegowina) is a province of the Duchy of Brunswick. The province is made up of the former Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is bordered by the provinces of Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro. Its capital is Sarajevo.

History[]

Bosnia and Herzegovina was conquered by the Romans in the 2nd and 1st centuries B.C. and became the province of Dalmatia. The Goths overran the area in the 4th and 5th centuries then occupied it until the Byzantine Empire claimed it in the 6th century. The region was settled by Slavs began to settle the area in the 7th century. Bosnia gained independence from Hungary around the beginning of the 13th century and remained that way for 260 years.

The Ottoman Turks conquered Bosnia in 1463 and occupied until the Congress of Berlin gave Austria-Hungary the mandate to occupy Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1878 but did not annex the territories until 1908. The relations with Serbia became bitter which caused the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his morganatic wife in 1914 by a Serbian and led to the start of World War I. Bosnia and Herzegovina was annexed to Serbia in 1918 and became Yugoslavia in 1929. Germany invaded Yugoslavia in 1941 and made the country part of Croatia. Bosnia and Herzegovina was reunited under Communist rule as a state after World War II.

Bosnia and Herzegovina declared independence in 1991 and the citizens chose independence in a 1992 referendum.

Bosnia and Herzegovina became a province of the Duchy in 2009.
