FK Kotlas is a Uralican football (soccer) club, which was among the "Original Twelve" that played in the first Bolakliiga season, where they finished sixth. However, excessive injuries and coaching issues brought them down to earth in 2009, where they ended up finishing a mediocre fourteenth, making them one of only two teams in the Bolakliiga to stay in the Bolakliiga but sack their manager after that season (the other was, surprisingly, FK Vorkuta). Replacing their original manager, Tomi Lumme, was another Finn, Tarmo Saarela, who was previously touted to be manager of Öskölomen Palloklubi.
It is expected that FK Kotlas will perform better next season because of a few off-season transfers and an injection of fresh up-and-coming talent from their surprisingly good youth system, which has been ranked fourth behind SiPS, Gazovik Izhevsk, and Dinamo Kirov.
