Fred Derf's first alliance was Novus Orbus where he served as Minister of Internal Affairs and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also represented Novus Orbus as their delegate to the Common Defense Treaty. In October 2007, slightly before Novus Orbus decided to merge with Invicta, Fred Derf joined NATO. At NATO, he served as Under Secretary General to Anu Drake, as Battalion Sergeant Major and as the Senior Ambassador to both the Orange and Purple teams.
In April 2008, Fred Derf left NATO to join The Revolution which was, at the time, under NATO viceroyalty and a protectorate of MHA. Fred Derf initially became the Alpha of Reckoning (War and Defence) which he held for several election cycles until he was elected Hierarch in August 2008.
Derfland has always been an active military nation with over 500,000 casualties. Derfland was once the victim of a nuclear rogue.

Its technology is first rate and its citizens marvel at the astonishing advancements within their nation. Its citizens pay extremely high taxes and many despise their government as a result. The citizens of Derfland work diligently to produce Rubber and Furs as tradable resources for their nation. It is an aggressive country that some say has an itch for war. When it comes to nuclear weapons Derfland will not research or develop nuclear weapons. Plans are on the way within Derfland to open new rehabilitation centers across the nation and educate its citizens of the dangers of drug use. Derfland allows its citizens to protest their government but uses a strong police force to monitor things and arrest lawbreakers. It has an open border policy, but in order for immigrants to remain in the country they will have to become citizens first. Derfland believes in the freedom of speech and feels that it is every citizen's right to speak freely about their government. The government gives foreign aid when it can, but looks to take care of its own people first. The government of Derfland will trade with any other country regardless of ethical consequences.
