The question of ownership on the Cyber Nations Wiki falls under two policies which are in place on this Wiki, one which was adopted by Wikia, and one of which was adopted per a community discussion held between 14 December 2006 and 25 January 2007, which upheld that policy.
Four forms of ownership exist on the Cyber Nations Wiki:
- The site itself, and Wikia trademarks including the Wikia name and logo, are owned by Wikia, Inc.;
- The copyright of a particular edit is owned by the person who made that edit, subject to our Copyright Policy;
- Ownership of files uploaded to the Cyber Nations Wiki should be denoted by an appropriate license tag, subject to our File Copyright Policy; and
- The Cyber Nations Wiki is owned by the community of editors to the wiki as a whole.
What this means for editors of the Cyber Nations Wiki is, in short, that anyone, regardless of their national, alliance, team, or other affiliation within Cyber Nations, as well as people who do not play Cyber Nations, may make constructive edits to any article on the Cyber Nations Wiki. Article creators do not own the articles they create, nation rulers do not own articles about their nations, and alliance members do not own articles about their alliances. Any text submitted to the Cyber Nations Wiki is automatically released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License 3.0 (Unported), and may be edited, altered, or removed by other contributors acting in good faith. This policy was affirmed by community consensus in January 2007.
The Cyber Nations Wiki is owned by its community of editors, and it is the wiki community that holds the right to adopt policies by consensus. This does not mean that edits made to the Cyber Nations Wiki may violate established policies, simply because the contributor disagrees with them. The Cyber Nations Wiki is a wiki about Cyber Nations, and is not owned or controlled in any way by Kevin Marks, Cyber Nations, or Planet Realm Online Gaming; nor any other person, corporation, organization, association, or entity connected with Cyber Nations. Content from Cyber Nations is used under presumed applicability of fair use doctrine of United States Copyright Law. The Cyber Nations Wiki's association with Cyber Nations ends at the content of the articles, and the two are entirely separate entities. Questions, comments, or concerns about the Cyber Nations Wiki should be addressed at the Village Pump or by contacting the Wiki's administration; similar queries regarding Cyber Nations should be addressed at the Cyber Nations Forums or by contacting Cyber Nations' administration.
