The Augustine Empire is a nation on the Augustine Gulf in North America.
Geography[]
The Augustine Empire is primarily coastal with some mountains in its northern territories. It consists of Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, as well as Mexico.
History[]
Prior to the Grand Mexican War, the North American Commonwealth controlled the region around the Gulf of Mexico and most of the former United States of America. At the conclusion of the war, many governments collapsed, and many of the others shrunk as they were incapable of projecting power over vast distances. The North American Commonwealth was one of the nations that contracted, which led to a power vacuum in the Gulf area.
Marcus Fisher, owner of a regional chain of grocery stores, secured power in Pensacola. He built a network of strongmen to secure supply chains to his stores, which in turn increased his regional power. Fisher transitioned this into a nation-state, building a military, and slowly traveling down the length of Florida, capturing more territory. A student of history, he changed his name to Marcus Augustus, and termed himself Emperor, and called his new nation the Augustine Empire. Military strength surged and over the next decade, and the Augustine Empire captured the rest of the Gulf coastline up through Texas.
In a series of wars spanning the reigns of Marcus Augustus and Alexander Augustus, the Empire would conquer Cumberland[1], North Mexico, and Elegada[2] as well as numerous free cities. This would fully secure the Gulf of Mexico, which was renamed the Augustine Gulf.
Some of these wars were fought with New Tahoe as an ally. However, in the mid-2160s, New Tahoe was eager to expand itself, and invaded California[3]. Cascadia entered the war on the side of California[4]. Emperor Alexander Augustus was fearful of Cascadia's Air Force and called Cascadia and J Andres to a summit, which led to the Savannah Accords[5] which divided up the majority of North America for those three nations and each agreed not to infringe on each other’s territory. Approximately a year later, Emperor Alexander Augustus was found dead[6] which has been speculated to be due to his support for the Savannah Accords, which were viewed as a weakness for the empire by some of the elite. Emperor Marshall Augustus became the next emperor in the imperial election[7].
Government and Politics[]
The Augustine Empire is an elective monarchy and the Emperor has absolute authority. The Emperor is elected by 7 electors:
- Three hereditary positions, originally assigned to the three children of Emperor Marcus Augustus
- Four appointed positions, that are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Emperor
- Viceroy Imperator
- Viceroy Treasurer
- General of the Army
- Admiral of the Navy
Foreign Relations[]
Many nations of North America are skeptical of the Augustine Empire due to its rapid growth and rise. The Augustine Empire has a skeptical outlook on the other signatories of the Savannah Accords, Cascadia and J Andres and a negative outlook on the north Central American nations of the North American Commonwealth and Detchitoria. The Augustine Empire views Solaria as future expansion territory, and has a neutral outlook on the Fortaleza Federation and Kingdom of Aurelia.
