Prince Amir Ambrai XII, the reigning monarch of Ossetia, is currently fifty-three years of age. He was born in the Year of the Dragon 739, the first-born child of Prince Riyan Ambrai XI. His early childhood was spent at Reiza Palace, as is tradition for the Crown Prince. He was tutored there until the age of eight when he was sent to a private school until the age of fifteen, whereupon he returned to Reiza. At the age of seventeen he spent a year at Feruche Barracks, where he became a member of the Royal Knights. When he turned eighteen he joined the Royal Navy Office, training for seven months before being assigned to the ONV Defiance, a Triumphant class battleship. He left the Royal Navy Office as a Junior Middle Officer at the age of twenty, when he was officially given the castle of Wentyn to be his main residence, where he lived for many years until Prince Riyan died.

Amir courted a woman named Danladi "Dani" Catallen for several years before asking her hand in marriage at the age of twenty-seven. She accepted and immediately, as was tradition, was given the title of Neva'Reia ("Virgin Princess"), and given extensive training at Wentyn for the duties she would assume when Amir would succeed his father. Amid controversy, the royal couple did not have children until their eighth year of marriage, when Crown Prince Revia was born. The royal family ignored these concerns however as Prince Amir himself was not born for years after his parents married. He was followed by Princess Elia four years later, and a year after her came the only current Prince of the Blood, Geir.

At Wentyn the family was able to live in relative privacy, despite the intense attention of the media, and the children had a happy and sheltered childhood. While Danladi was being trained for the office of the princess, Amir ran Wentyn and was reportedly quite happy with this duty. He became a member of the Magisterial Council for two successive terms, as a result becoming very interested with environmental concerns. Until his father died, he was an active member of several environmental and ecological groups. While with these groups he famously did not hold back verbal attacks on companies who held out on green policies.

At the age of fifty-three, his father Prince Riyan died at the age of eighty-nine and Amir was crowned ruling prince of Ossetia in an opulent ceremony at Feruche. The family moved from Wentyn to Reiza Palace and took on their expected roles for the first time. Amir's first decree and business as reigning prince was to give power to the Magisterial Council that they did not have to seek out his approval and signatures to enact policies. This was a popular move and was seen as a step in the right direction, as approval ratings for the royal family had plummeted since Prince Riyan had absolutely refused to increase the influence or power of the Magisterial Council at the expense of the monarchy.

The power of the monarchy is still a source of ire for the population, however, who continue to attend rally demonstrations outside Reiza Palace. The Council itself does not demonstrate anything but unswerving loyalty to the crown, as that is where their power derives.

Currently, the royal family continues to fulfil their traditional roles. Crown Prince Revia is enlisted into the Royal Air Corps. and Prince of the Blood Geir is away at a private school. Princess Elia follows her mother around the world, making appearances at charitable organisations and donating much of her salary to charities, rejecting the private school to be tutored at home and while travelling. The family insist on wearing more casual clothes than would normally be expected of a royal family, changing centuries of tradition. Until recently the family was very private and forbade pictures in the media of the children, but in recent years they have been taking on more roles and appear often at public functions, especially Elia as she travels with her mother to charity organisations and functions around the world. The two princes do not appear excessively, but occasionally, most recently both showed up at the launch of Princess Danladi's own charity. Amir remains very private and refuses to be photographed the majority of the time. Amir is very much involved with the running of the country, attending the vast majority of the sessions held by the Magisterial Council. His salary is used up by the running and upkeep of Reiza Palace, the two private jets and the small cruise liner PV Goddess owned by the royal family, as well as some private charities. He still wears the uniform of a Junior Middle Officer in formal situations. The royal family is estimated to cost the state somewhere in the region of R£16,000,000 a year, though rumours suggest it is closer to R£21,500,000.

Residences belonging to the family include Reiza Palace, Wentyn Castle, Stronghold Castle, Kiriko Manor and Athmyr House. Reiza Palace is the official residence of the monarchy, while Wentyn is the residence of the Crown Prince. Stronghold is the former official residence of the family, but after Reiza was built in the reign of Prince Atreyu Ambrai VI, it was abandoned for a long period of time. Restoration work was completed by Prince Deniv Ambrai X who made it the official summer residence of the royal family, a status it retains today. Kiriko Manor is a large manor building on the very opposite end of Ossetia, built for the family of Lord Tilal just over a hundred years ago. It was given to the royal family by the state when the last of Tilal's family died sixty-seven years ago, and is currently the residence of Princess Liana and her husband, Lord Kostas. Athmyr House was a private hunting lodge of Prince Rillon Ambrai IV. Upon his death it was converted into a proper home and became the retirement home of Princesses of the line if their husband died before them. It was last occupied by Princess Ianthe, wife of Prince Deniv Ambrai X. It is currently not occupied.
