Acadia or the Acadian Democracy is a nation on the east coast of North America.
Geography[]
Acadia has many coastal regions. It consists of the former Canadian provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and portions of the former US state of Maine.
It shares borders with Ottania and J Andres.
History[]
In the early days after the 1970s collapse, the nation of Acadia formed in what was previously The Maritimes. Acadia was unique in its attempt to be a Deliberative democracy. Acadia survived until sometime in the 2020s or 2030s before it collapsed and was administered by Pravus Inguro. When Pravus Ingruo collapsed in 2045, the territory was claimed by New Quebec. New Quebec collapsed after the Grand Mexican War in 2085.
In 2095, the government of Acadia formed a new nation centered on Halifax, Nova Scotia. The nation grew steadily to control many surrounding territories, although they are generally sparsely populated. Halifax is the only significant population center.
Government and Politics[]
Acadia is a democracy. The capital building in Halifax contains an amphitheater and citizens are encourages to deliberate on legislation and vote. A prime minister is selected for a ten year term. The prime minister facilitates discussion and has broad executive authority when required due to war or disaster.
The strength of the government is strongest in Halifax, and diminishes with distance from the capital. The armed forces are not well organized.
Foreign Relations[]
Acadia has strong relations with other francophone nations of North America, primarily Ottania. Acadia has a neutral view on J Andres and a negative view of the Augustine Empire. Some J Andres corporations view Acadia as a moderate tax haven.
