The 2011 Libyan Revolution is an ongoing conflict taking place in Libya. The belligerents are forces Loyal to the Gaddafi regime known as Pro Gaddafi forces and those who want to remove him from power known as Anti Gaddafi forces. The United Republic of Ireland intervened in the war on the 22nd October after they sent 6990 ground forces into Libya to assist the Anti Gaddafi Forces in removing Muammar Gaddafi from power.
Timeline
- October 20: Rebel forces take control of Khoms in a battle that left 105 dead.
- October 21: Pro Gaddafi Forces unsuccessfully attempt to retake Khoms.
- October 22: 6990 Irish Army soldiers enter Khoms in aid of the Rebels.
- October 25: Pro Gaddafi forces retreat from the city of Khoms.
- October 26: The United Republic of Ireland officially recognise the NTC as the official government for Libya.
- October 29: Anti Gaddafi forces take over the city of Sirte.
