Gilbert Henry Shorestead, or Prince Gilbert, Duke of Portsmouth was the Prince consort to Queen Katherine. Gilbert was permitted to use the title Duke of Portsmouth as it is one of many titles held by the crown until his wife's passing[1].

Patrilineality, descent as reckoned from father to son, has historically been the principle determining membership in reigning families. By the paternal line, Gilbert belongs to the House of Shorestead.
